Our Mission …
Choral Arts inspires, educates and enriches its community through the transformational power of great choral music performed at the highest artistic level.
Our Commitment …
-
To share the beauty of high-quality choral music in a way that is transforming and special. Choral music has a unique power to connect individuals through voice, a shared and an integral part of the human experience. Our programs breathe life into the works we perform and enliven our audiences through concerts that engage people on a deeper level.
-
To provide students with a fresh and oftentimes first experience with choral music through our Education Outreach Programs. We visit and perform at area schools during our Bach-to-School program. We sponsor an annual poetry contest, “Finding Your Voice,” in which students submit their poems and compete for the opportunity for Choral Arts to commission and premier a new work featuring the winning poem. Mentorships and performance opportunities are offered to student choirs, and students of all ages are admitted free to all Choral Arts concerts.
- To honor the talents and contributions of our country’s composers and be a catalyst for the creation of new compositions by American composers.
In the past four years, Choral Arts has commissioned and premiered seven new works and will premiere three more later this season. We will host our first Composer-in-Residence, William Averitt, in the spring of 2011 and premiere his new piece “Traveling Home: An American Requiem” in March.
This season, Choral Arts started a new Concerts and Conversations program at our performances to give the audience an opportunity to meet with guest composers and learn more about music-making from the composers’ point of view. Composers and Choral Arts’ Artistic Director Robert Bode talk with the audience about their work and illuminate areas of the program through storytelling.
